McFarlane Lake Tour – Please Note Time Change

Come and discover some great neighbourhood routes and ride with experienced riders who can guide you on how to navigate our roads and cycling infrastructure.

On August 18, we’re riding from the “Four Corners” of Regent/Paris Streets to tour around Lake MacFarlane. Depending on the time, an optional stop at Kivi Park could be possible – an entrance fee or membership is required to bike or hike at Kivi Park. The lovely valley around McFarlane Lake has winding roads with rolling hills and views of a few old farms, and of the lake. Note there is no shorter option for this ride because of the start location for this ride. If anyone is interested in riding less distance, please post interest on our Facebook page and we might be able to hook you up with others who might be interested in doing another RWGPS ride with you.

A mix of a few sections of high-traffic roads, with quiet rural roads with great Northern Ontario natural scenery. Highway 69 (TransCanada Highway) has paved shoulders all the way back to the Four Corners intersection.

Meet us at the Food Basics Mall at 5:45 to register. We are switching our start time to 6:00 pm because the evenings are now getting shorter.

All of our rides are also on our Ride With GPS club page, so you can do them on your own if you can’t join us on ride night:

We will be posting our weekly rides on our Facebook page, on Instagram and on Twitter, as well as in an event on our website.

The ride starts at 6:00 pm. Please be at the start by 5:45 so we can get everyone registered before the start of the ride.

We will cancel rides in inclement weather, so please check our website or social media prior to heading out to the ride for any changes to the ride. We’ll post any cancellations by 5 pm the day of the ride.

Bring water and make sure your bike is in good shape eg. air in tires, brakes in working order.

Our rides and Covid-19

There are currently no restrictions on outdoor gatherings, and we respect the choices that you make to stay safe.

Details about all of our rides

Join us for some fun rides in 2022! Our Thursday evening Community Rides run until mid to end of September. Rides will be offered in a variety of locations across Greater Sudbury. We’ll be travelling on roads and hard packed trails, so rides will be suitable for all styles of bicycles, and for most riders except for those who are just learning to ride.

Details, including the route for the ride, will go up on our website and on our social media a few days before the scheduled ride. Any cancellations due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances will also be announced the day of the ride on our website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We typically only cancel if there is the risk of thunder, extreme heat, or poor conditions on the roads or trails.

Children are welcome on our rides, but parents are responsible for determining if their child can complete the ride.

We will always ensure that the group stays together – no rider will be left behind! Every ride will include a pre-ride safety talk and some tips on how to navigate the route. Riders will need to sign an attendance/waiver form, and all riders under 18 must wear a helmet.

Before each ride, please ensure that your bike is road-worthy. We’ll have a bicycle pump available prior to each ride, but we won’t be doing bike repairs or adjustments. We encourage all riders to wear helmets. And don’t forget to bring some water and snacks!
