Lake Huron North Channel Cycling Route Study
Last night, several members of the SCU participated in a feedback session for a proposed bike route along the Lake Huron North Channel between the Cities of Sault Ste. Marie and Greater Sudbury. The study was a result of the Northern Ontario Bike Summit in 2011, and an outline has been developed showing a cycling route connecting these cities and the communities between them. The intent is to publish the route via web and brochure, as well as key destinations and attractions, in order to provide economic, tourism, health and environmental benefits for residents and visitors to the region.
It was a great session, and a number of organizations were represented, including the SCU, the Rainbow Routes Association, the Sudbury and District Health Unit, Science North, and one of the Trail Associations (snowmobiles). The snowmobilers were there as the route may use some of the existing snowmobile trails,
It was very exciting to see this proposal. The SCU and others there had lots of good comments and recommendations. There is still an opportunity to make additional comments and recommendations by filling in a survey. Many surveys have already been completed by interested parties living in the Sault Ste. Marie area, and we need feedback from more folks from Sudbury.
