Controlled Access Highways 69 and 17
A Public Information Session was held on September 23, 2014 for a Controlled Access Highway 69 from the Estaire Road Interchange to Highway 17, a distance of approximately 6.3 km; and for the Highway 17, Southeast By-Pass from Highway 69 to Bancroft Drive, a distance of approximately 9.8 km.
Cycling is PROHIBITED on controlled access highways. Cyclists are already prohibited on some sections of highway 69, thus not allowing cyclists to go direction south from Sudbury. This also cuts off Killarney to cyclists.
The SCU has previously sent a letter of concern for this project. Feedback from those who attended the session is that there will be a short pedestrian/cyclists trail north of highway 69 from Pioneer Road to Regent Street. Nothing is yet in the plans for any other cycling infrastructure. Consultants at the meeting also stated that they think there may be additional direction from the Ministry of Transportation to add more infrastructure as a result of the CycleON strategy; however, they have not been directed to make any changes yet.

If you have some concerns about the lack of cycling infrastructure on these new highways, you can send comments to comments@highway17sudburytomarkstay.ca. Consultants are asking for comments by October 24, 2014.
