Volunteers needed for Bike/Vélo Fest
We’re looking for volunteers to help out with the SCU bike exchange and bike rodeo at Tom Davies Square on Saturday, May 30. These are events that are part of Bike/Vélo Fest. The events start at 3:00 and go to 5:00 pm, but we’ll need help with setup and tear down, starting around 1:00 pm.
For the bike exchange, duties would be to help register bikes as they come in (on a form), help kids pick out a bike that fits them, help with bike helmet fit, and help parents fill out a waiver form once they choose a bike.
For the bike rodeo, duties would be to help out with coaching riders to do an ABC bike check (check their air, brakes and chain), and coaching them through the course.
If we have enough volunteers, we’ll also be running some quick safe rules of the road workshops that tell parents and kids how to safely ride on residential roads.
Mayor Brian Bigger will be there between 4:00 and 4:30 pm to read a proclamation opening Bike Fest and Commuter Challenge week. If you want to chat with him about cycling, this is your opportunity! Mayor Bigger is a great supporter of cycling.
Even if you’re not helping out, bike down to support the events!
You can then head over to La Fromagerie for a social running from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Trek, Kona and Specialized bike reps will there and the Outside Store will have some bikes on display that you can preview – bikes that you’ll be able to ride if you come out to the Sunday Bike Fest trail rides at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area, Bioski Club, end of South Bay Road. We’re looking for some volunteers there too, to help set up and tear down, and help man our SCU displays under the Rainbow Routes tent.
Come out and have some fun and help promote cycling in Greater Sudbury!
